HOSTING Chernobyl children for the first time has been a very rewarding experience for one couple.

In May/June last year, Ali Ellis took part in a charity bike ride from London to Paris with two friends.

Husband, Guy, a Specsavers director, works with Klaus Hagerich, treasurer of the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline Guernsey Link.

So Mrs Ellis, 39, decided to give the money from her cycling effort to that cause. Shortly afterwards, she was asked if she and her husband, who have three children of their own, Darcey, 8, Lola, 6, and Caspar, 4, would be interested in hosting extra children.

'We asked for time to think about it and then said yes,' said Mrs Ellis.
