FURTHER rises in electricity prices will mean some pensioners considering food over heating, OAP representatives have warned.

Age Concern chairman Deputy Jan Kuttelwascher said he was disappointed to learn that people could soon be hit by an unexpected hike in their energy bills.

It follows an announcement by Jersey and Guernsey Electricity that it might not be viable to repair one of the undersea cables to France - the knock-on effect is that Guernsey's capacity to import cheap energy is reduced.

And Deputy Kuttelwascher, pictured, said the expense of generating more power on island would be another burden for people to cope with.
