LES BEAUCAMPS' rebuild will be the end of the line for former director of education Derek Neale if funding is not found to redevelop La Mare de Carteret.

And Education minister Deputy Robert Sillars said that whether Mr Neale stayed on as director of school projects was out of the department's hands as the decision to approve or block funding for the build was up to States members.

Mr Neale, pictured, who left his former post ahead of a highly critical review of the department by teacher Denis Mulkerrin following the GCSE results saga, is one of eight department members stationed at the site to oversee the project.

'I retired as director of education on the understanding that the job involved overseeing the building of the new schools,' said Mr Neale.

'We've nearly finished this one and, subject to finance, the next step would be to move on to La Mare de Carteret. If the States decide and the department decides that will be the next project then that is what I'd move on to - but it's up to the States and the department to decide its priorities.'
