HOSTING the Olympic Torch Relay this weekend is a great opportunity for Guernsey and its businesses, people in Town said yesterday.

Most were excited by the prospect of seeing the Olympic Torch and thought that it would raise the island's profile.

Finance worker Glenn Etherington, 25, said he was helping out with events taking place on Sunday.

'I think it is good and shows our support for the Olympians from Guernsey.'

Sails manageress Nicky Scott said that the relay could help boost businesses in the area.

But accountant Luc Guillou, 23, was 'not fussed' about the event.

'It is the English Olympics rather than Guernsey but some people will enjoy it and it is harmless.'
