PLANS for an art gallery at the Hotel Bon Port does not mean the end of wedding receptions, its leaseholder has said.

And GU Catering managing director Shaun McDonald said the business was in fact in a state of growth, with plans to develop a wellness haven and make the facility available for conferences.

The planning application was submitted by the owners, the Haynes family, who bought the St Martin's business in 2010 for £1.73m.

But Mr McDonald, who holds a seven-year lease for the hotel, said the application was made to give the owners options in the future and might not come to fruition.

'We have bookings confirmed into 2014,' he said.
