ONE of Guernsey's best-known businessmen has died.

Former CI Traders chairman Tom Scott lost his long battle with prostate cancer on Wednesday morning. He was 67.

His list of business achievements since moving to Guernsey in 1987 include becoming chairman of Guernsey and Jersey Gas and Channel Television, spearheading the development of Admiral Park, and buying Jacksons Garages and many pubs and restaurants.

Former Bailiff Sir Geoffrey Rowland said Mr Scott, who moved to Jersey in 2003, had made a great contribution to the island.

'Many office workers will be grateful for his dynamic and purposeful approach to property development which created first-class, modern office accommodation to enable our economy to flourish,' he said. 'I will remember him particularly for his public spirited generous contributions to charities and other worthwhile causes, invariably without seeking any publicity.'
