SARK could have a temporary chief executive in place within two months.
The appointment, if approved by Chief Pleas at a special sitting at the end of August, would be for six months and would be taken from the public sectors of one of the Crown Dependencies, probably Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man.
The announcement was made by General Purposes and Advisory chairman Charles Maitland (pictured) to a public meeting at Sark's Island Hall to an audience of about 100 – an estimated 20% of the adult population.
Addressing the meeting, which was chaired by Conseiller Steve Taylor, Conseiller Maitland said that the report by former Whitehall civil servant Belinda Crowe was commissioned when it became clear that the 16 committees of Chief Pleas were 'self-governing' with no overall way of developing policies which affected all committees.
