MORE than 1,000 entries have filled the Professor Shaw Community Centre for this year's South Show.

Committee president Richard Breban said the event, which opened yesterday afternoon, was going really well.

'We have some new classes and that has helped bring in new entrants,' he said.

There was lots of success for some growers in the traditional classes.

Adam Bailey, 42, won prizes in 19 out of the 20 classes he entered, including nine first places.

Several of his awards were for his carrots and parsnips, which were over 4ft long.
