WITHOUT change, Sark's government could 'implode,' a report recommending the introduction of the island's first ever civil servant has warned.

Conseillers will decide at an extraordinary meeting of Chief Pleas next week whether a temporary chief secretary should be appointed .

It follows a recommendation in an independent review of the island's administration by Belinda Crowe.

The appointment was needed to begin the gradual implementation of the review, a report by General Purposes and Advisory said.

'The committee believes that it is imperative that Sark equips itself in order to deal effectively with the challenges it faces,' said GP&A chairman Charles Maitland, pictured, in the report.
