A VAN was swallowed by the incoming tide at Belle Greve Bay yesterday, after it got stuck on the beach.

By about 5.30pm the large white Toyota was submerged.

Ady Harvey and his children - eight-year-old Jamie-Leigh and 10-year-old A-Jay - came down to check on the vehicle, which belonged to a friend who had gone to fix a fishing boat belonging to Mr Harvey's father, Albert.

The boat had a problem with the impeller.

But when they tried to restart the van, they found the vehicle had become trapped in the soft sand close to Salerie Pier.

  • Rescuers returned to the scene on Friday night and the van was towed up the beach.
