A BMW crashed into a metal barrier at the Admiral Park superstores' car park yesterday morning, landing a man in hospital. The incident happened just before 8.30am.

Fire & Rescue Service watch commander Matthew Roger said it was believed that the 325 convertible had driven into the car park and had collided with the barrier, which formed the edge of ramp to the second storey of the car park.

'It looks like the driver might have hit the wrong pedal by mistake and stepped on the throttle and sped up,' he said.

An Ambulance and Rescue spokesman said the driver had chest and shoulder pain, which appeared to indicate whiplash. He also suffered a leg wound, which was treated on the scene.
