A CHINESE takeaway has been fined £3,000 for operating in unsanitary conditions and failing to improve the premises.

In the Magistrate's Court, Rohais Chip Shop manager Guang You Wang, of Elmleigh, Elm Grove, St Peter Port, pleaded guilty to six counts after failing to comply with the statutory improvement notices from the Health and Social Services Department with regards the Rohais Chinese Takeaway.

The notices included the requirement to put the oven beneath the ventilator extraction canopy, redoing the ceiling with a smooth finish and replacing the walk-in freezer with non-corrosion shelving.

Judge Philip Robey said the fine had to be of a significant amount to show the importance of making improvements promptly.

Defending Advocate Clare Tee said her client was of good character and that four of the seven improvement notices had been dealt with and quotes were being acquired for the rest of the work.
