END of an era or a welcome change? Customers and Sandy Hook residents had mixed feelings about the closure of the Island Shopper today.
Sandpiper, who said the local store was not suitable for modern retailing, have planning permission to replace it with three houses and parking.
The company runs the nearby L'Islet Food Hall. Staff members have been moved to other Island Shoppers.
General assistant Neil Hughes, 35, usually worked at L'Islet but sometimes covered shifts at the Sandy Hook store.
'I have noticed that L'Islet has started getting a lot busier, but I think it's a shame to close this one.
'The two shops are quite close but for residents in the area this shop must be very convenient,' he said.
