Education refuses to set time limits on recruitment
EDUCATION has refused to set targets for the length of time it takes to recruit teachers.
EDUCATION has refused to set targets for the length of time it takes to recruit teachers.
But education reviewer Denis Mulkerrin suggested the department had made great strides in the year that has passed since his report criticised the time – up to eight weeks – it took to appoint teachers.
Mr Mulkerrin, pictured, said teachers were now being hired within three to four weeks on average.
Mr Mulkerrin's report into secondary education argued Guernsey was missing out on the best teachers from the UK because it could take up to eight weeks to appoint new recruits.
But Education claimed it would be unwise to set recruitment targets. However, it did say that timescales would be brought down by the introduction of SAP – a States-wide computer system.
