AN INVESTIGATION is under way after Huelin Renouf's new £8.8m. cargo ship ran aground off Alderney on its maiden commercial voyage.

It is still not clear how much damage there is to the ship or how it came to hit the isolated rock.

The incident happened at about 7.15pm on Friday.

The lifeboat was on the scene within 15 minutes and the eight-man crew on the cargo ship were assessed. None was hurt.

Huelin-Renouf Guernsey director Steve Champion-Smith said the company was looking at chartering another vessel while the Dispatch was being repaired.
