KEEN shoppers queued outside the new Co-operative Locale in Town ahead of its opening yesterday morning.

Customers and directors applauded as Dave Johnson, who has worked for the Co-op for 51 years, cut the ribbon to the Royal Terrace store at 9am.

Mr Johnson, who began working for the company when he was 21, was delighted to open it.

'I was really shocked when they asked me if I wanted to do it and at first I thought it was a joke. I have been well looked after at the Co-op and treated well by everyone. It's been a pleasure,' he said.

'The new store is lovely and the amount of time put in to be up and running was first class.'
