Neither police chief Patrick Rice nor GBA chief Rob Prow would comment on the announcement that the department will streamline their two posts into one.
Both have been invited to apply for the new position, aimed at ensuring a close working relationship between the two agencies.
Home's chief officer Paul Whitfield, pictured, said that as well as improving efficiency the radical change would also save money.
'There is not an exact figure but we are removing a substantial post, de-layering the structure straightaway with the new role,' he said.
