Big crowd for Santa

HUNDREDS of children greeted Santa Claus on Saturday as he arrived to switch on St Peter Port's Christmas lights.

Families lined the roads as he made his way from the Model Yacht Pond to Church Square, while helpers, including elves and snowmen, collected children's Christmas lists.

Santa said it was good to be back in Guernsey.

'The kids are always so well behaved in Guernsey and I always look forward to coming'' he said.

Islanders had spent hours waiting in the square to get good spots for the switch-on. As soon as Father Christmas came into sight. a cheer went up from the crowd.
