A YOUNG woman born in Guernsey was crushed beneath a tree that fell during recent storms in the UK.

Michelle Conroy was taking shelter in a small tent beside a busy route into Exeter when the accident occurred on Saturday 24 November, according to a report in The Times.

Shortly before noon a large tree blew down and crushed her.

It was reported that Ms Conroy, 21, was sleeping rough at the time after leaving a hostel in Plymouth to be with her homeless boyfriend. He and another friend were said to be with her in the tent when the tree fell – both survived with minor injuries.

Ms Conroy was described as a 'sweet and caring' person who was always ready to help her friends.
