FEARS were raised in the States yesterday that work to start rebuilding La Mare de Carteret High School could be kicked down the road until 2018 – some 16 years after the States promised it would happen.

Education minister Robert Sillars, pictured, raised the prospect as he argued that the States should not delay deciding on what its capital projects should be this term.

He warned that a spade might not get in the ground until 2015 or 2016, even if there was no hold up.

He was successful with an amendment which was backed by 39 votes to seven.
