Nearby residents of unofficial tourist site Gnome Rock are pleased to see the return of a collection of the garden ornaments.

People were outraged when the gnomes were removed by police from the headland near Beaucette Marina, Vale.

Neighbour Ellie Mitchell, 23, got into the spirit for her first visit to the site, dressing up as a gnome for the occasion.

'It should definitely be a permanent fixture,' she said. 'This place feels like it will bring you good luck – it's quite seasonal too.'

Guernsey Police insisted that the gnomes had been 'found' rather than confiscated.
