COLLEGE of Further Education principal Trevor Wakefield is retiring after 11 years in the position.

Mr Wakefield, pictured, who turns 65 next year, said a lot had changed during that time and he would miss it a great deal.

'We have gone through substantial growth at the college, we have introduced lots of new subjects and we have developed the range of levels for courses right from entry to degree level.

'During my time as principal I think the main challenge was actually growing the college and having a strategy in place to increase participation and broaden the courses,' he said.

He added that the college had always aimed at meeting its motto of inclusion and excellence and it had succeeded in doing that.

Once retired, he was looking forward to getting involved in new things as well as continuing his work with the Guernsey Adult Literacy Project, of which he is director.
