States Works confirmed a consultation would take place as part of a general operational review of the sewage tanker service.
The review will look at all operational aspects of the service, from route planning and vehicle utilisation to whether the current contractual arrangements with drivers are the most appropriate.
There are 34 sewage cart drivers in Guernsey.
States Works general manager Paul Lickley said it would ensure that the service was efficient and cost-effective to its client, Guernsey Water, and to their customers.
