BEING honoured by the Queen is something you normally associate with other people, according to one recipient.

Jurat Mike Tanguy was awarded the MBE for his public and voluntary services to Guernsey.

'It's not something you think of or aspire to, but something you see more worthy people receiving and never you,' he said.

Jurat Tanguy said the award was recognition of the 'teams' who had given him such fine support over the years.

'You can't get involved to such an extent in charitable work without the support of your wife and family, either,' he said.

Jurat Tanguy has been married to Elizabeth since 1956. They have four children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Also honoured were Sark's Olympic gold medallist Carl Hester and Alderney's Ilona Soane-Sands.
