HEALTH and Social Services has been criticised for concentrating too much on its future vision rather than the day-to-day running of the hospital.

Deputy Mary Lowe, pictured, said she was shocked that the department had announced the De Saumarez surgical ward and Divette ward would remain closed because there were not enough people to staff them.

'They gave assurances that they would reopen them,' she said.

'They are letting down sick people. It seems to be that they have spent so much time on the vision rather than the day-to-day running – effectively they took their eye off the ball.

'Stop focusing on all these 2020 Vision presentations and get on with the running this hospital properly.'
