GUERNSEY'S new skatepark is starting to take shape as contractors press ahead with the much-anticipated project.

UK-based Wold Construction remain on track with its plans to transform the area near Beau Sejour by Easter and have made plenty of progress in their initial three weeks of work.

Already the diggers have been clearing land. Workers have also installed drainage and laid concrete bases for the main bowl and the street section.

The project was made possible thanks to the Get On Board campaign, launched by the Guernsey Xtreme Sports Association and supported by the Guernsey Press, which raised more than £250,000 in two years.

Association chairman Deputy Mike O'Hara encouraged extreme sports enthusiasts and members of the public to head to the site to see progress being made.
