A PROPOSAL will be tabled in Sark to appoint its first permanent civil servant, it was revealed yesterday.
The General Purposes and Advisory Committee will put the proposal to Chief Pleas, after it was listed as the number one priority by drafted-in Colin Kniveton during his time reviewing the island's committee structure.
GP&A chairman Charles Maitland, pictured, also backed a reform of the committee structure, which would reduce the number, but said this would be a more gradual development.
'As the chairman of the General Purposes and Advisory Committee, the busiest committee in Sark, I have been the one who has been more aware than others about the need for more help. I think reform of the committee system will happen. It will be more gradual when we get more help in.'
