SNOW that engulfed the western parishes stopped a lot of drivers in their tracks.

Many were caught out by the severity of the weather and some who were trying to get home were forced to abandon their vehicles and complete their journey on foot instead.

One of the worst hit areas was La Route des Paysans, St Peter's, and L'Eree hill, where some people reported that 'dozens' of vehicles were abandoned at one time.

Plumbing and heating engineer Tom Taberner, 26, was driving past La Houguette School on his way towards his home near the Longfrie at about 1pm on Monday when he found the road ahead impassable.

'I had no choice but to get out and walk,' he said.
