FLYBE'S new jet will land in Guernsey for the first time on Sunday.

The 88-seater Embraer 175 will touch down at 12.50pm, carrying passengers from London Gatwick.

The first passenger flight from Guernsey will depart shortly afterwards and will operate four flights a day.

The island's last commercial jet operation ended in 2008, when Flybe withdrew its BAE146 aircraft.

Deputy airport director Ashley Nicholas said that the business community would welcome the reintroduction of jet services and the new aircraft would disturb islanders less.

'These new aircraft will be quieter and produce less emissions than older types, which operated to and from Guernsey in the past.'

The new aircraft is able to travel to Guernsey following runway strengthening work, which was completed earlier this year.

This is a revised version of a story that appears on page 2 of Thursday's Guernsey Press, and is based on updated information received from Flybe.
