Facebook gossip page closes 'temporarily'

A CONTROVERSIAL Facebook page will be closed temporarily, its anonymous creator confirmed yesterday, after police announced that it would be monitoring its content.

Gossip page Spotted Guernsey was defended by its creator, who said no names would be mentioned and no businesses ridiculed.

The 23-year-old, listed on the site as male but who did not want to give his name, set up the page at the weekend.

He posted on the site yesterday that he had decided to close the page temporarily, but hoped to relaunch it soon with a different outlook.

A number of islanders had complained about the site and called for it to be shut down.
