A magical meeting of minds
IT IS the smallest magic society in the world and until last year was a well-kept secret.
IT IS the smallest magic society in the world and until last year was a well-kept secret.
Formed eight years ago, the Sark Magic Society is made up of well-known professional magicians who share a love of magic and of Sark.
This year, their island visit will include a world premiere of tricks never performed before.
The group meets periodically around the world and every few years in Sark. When there the members relax, work together and always put on a show in the Island Hall.
In 2012, Sark's was officially recognised by the International Federation of Magic Societies as its latest and smallest member.
Next week the society – made up of Banachek, John Archer, Ian Rowland, Marc Paul, Luke Jermay, James Brown, Drew McAdam and Spyros Melaris – arrive in Sark for a week's stay.
They have three shows planned for the Island Hall, on Friday 3 May at 7pm, Saturday 4 at 7pm and Sunday 5 May at 3pm. Each promises something different and this year there are two special features: each magician will showcase a trick they have never performed before and the society will have two new members chosen from the community in Sark.
Two volunteers with no experience will be taken into the secret world of magic, trained by the professionals over three days and given the stage to perform alongside the professionals on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are £5, available on the door, and all proceeds will go to the Professor Saint Medical Fund.
