A VAN driver considered himself lucky yesterday after his vehicle was clipped by a 'fishtailing' trailer.

The two vehicles collided outside Ian Brown's Cycle Shop at about 10.30am, causing Les Banques to be closed to traffic.

A Peugeot towing a trailer, with a burnt- out car on it, was heading north while the Nissan white van was travelling towards Town.

The van driver, who did not want to be named, said he saw the trailer veering from side-to-side before it caught his sliding rear door.

It dislodged the door, the back wheel and ripped off the van's back bumper.

Guernsey Police confirmed no one had been arrested.
