VETS4PETS job losses will hit 35 local staff over the next 12 months following its takeover by a large national chain.

The redundancies, mostly full-time roles with some part-time, will be from the Guernsey support office and will not affect the two practices at St Martin's and St Sampson's.

Pets at Home, a specialist retailer of pet foods, related products, accessories and services, announced earlier this month the acquisition and plans to combine Vets4Pets' 93 veterinary practices with its own 116 in-store 'Companion Care' vet businesses.

In a statement yesterday the company said: 'Following consultation with colleagues, we have confirmed that, regrettably, 35 roles will be lost from the Guernsey support office, to be phased over the next 12 months.'

Vets4Pets employed 42 full-time staff members in Guernsey.
