A TOTAL of 12 acts dazzled a packed Belle Vue ballroom and left the audience begging for more at the Rock the Rock's recent Stars in their Eyes event.

Dougal Bohan, who helped put on the event, said they were now considering a second outing this summer.

'The only complaint I've heard is from people who couldn't get in to see it,' he said. 'It went down extremely well and raised more than £2,500. People have already been asking if they can take part next year, which we are staging on 17 May. Our aim is to raise money while people are enjoying themselves.'

Buck Jones was transformed into Johnny Cash, Joe Stanley was Olly Murs, Nigel Roberts, Timmy Mallet, and Vicky Chandler and Peter Clay together made Meatloaf. Peter Clay had earlier done a turn as Green Day. Bonnie Jenkins, Julie Murray, Phil Murray and Dave Stanley wowed as Abba, Sammy Hogg was Cher, James Clarke flanked by Tracey Clarke were Elton John and Kiki Dee. Dougal Bohan was Tony Christie for the night. Phil Hatcher trowelled on the make-up for a turn as Robbie Williams and Tracey Johns was Joan Jett. Shannon Clarke and Maria Etheredge added glamour to the proceedings as slinky backing dancers.

All the acts were back on stage for a finale choreographed by Angela Stanley. It was so popular that a charity whip-round brought them back on stage for an encore.

Nigel Roberts managed to secure an original shirt and mallet from Timmy Mallet, which sold at auction for £305.

The show was raising funds for Rock the Rock, a 60s music spectacular which last year raised over £15,000 for Alderney Cancer Relief. This year other island charities will also benefit and a trust, the Alderney Rock Trust, has been formed to administer funds.

This year's event, on 17 August, will feature the Swinging Blue Jeans, The Fortunes and Vanity Fair.

'Rock the Rock has just ballooned,' said Mr Bohan. 'Last year is a hard act to follow as it was so successful, so we aren't going to tamper too much with the format. Once again it's going to take place in a marquee on the Butes, with a 60s theme and DJ John Randall coming over from Guernsey to host it. If everyone could now pray for good weather that would be very much appreciated.'
