ALDERNEY'S Beavers, Cubs and Scouts proudly led a procession of some 500 youngsters in St Peter Port for the annual St George's Day parade.
The 20-strong 1st Alderney contingent, fronted by seven-year-old flag carrier Beaver Scout Thanh Shaw, led Scouts of every variety from all around the Bailiwick.
It was the highlight of a jam-packed itinerary of events laid on for a weekend camp in Guernsey, where the emphasis was on giving the island youngsters a taste of activities not available to them.
Accompanied by a band, they led the procession along the Esplanade up to Candie Gardens. There, in front of the massed spectators and Bailiwick Scouts Commissioner Julie Bulpitt, Alderney's Scouts once again took centre stage. Cormac English, 8, read the Beaver Scout promise, Louis Wildi, 10, read out the Cub Law, Luke Atkinson, 10, read the Cub Promise and Joe Blackham, 14, read the Scout Law. Other flag carriers were Cub Karl Huddart, 9, and Scout Harry Craig, 13.
Afterwards, armed with tealights and origami paper candleholders that they had fashioned at earlier meetings, they helped break a Guinness Record for the greatest amount of candles being blown out at one time - more than 600 in total.
Trip leader Annabel Finding said: 'All of our Scouts did fantastically well with their readings, flag carrying and generally representing 1st Alderney in front of Scouts from the rest of the Bailiwick. They also enjoyed themselves getting to do the things that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in Guernsey take for granted.
