Policy Committee chairman rejects Alderney States members' 'shabby' resignation offer
ALDERNEY States members invited Paul Arditti to pretend he had stepped down from the Policy Committee of his own accord - if he agreed to resign without a fight.
ALDERNEY States members invited Paul Arditti to pretend he had stepped down from the Policy Committee of his own accord - if he agreed to resign without a fight.
The offer was made in an email sent to Mr Arditti following an emergency meeting of the Policy Committee.
The letter recommended that in the interests of the island Mr Arditti, pictured, quietly and immediately resign from the Policy Committee. If he did that, they wrote, the recent no-confidence vote and the reasons behind it would remain a secret among the other States members.
Then, it was suggested, Mr Arditti would have a free rein to publicly give any reasons he liked for his sudden departure.
In response to the email Mr Arditti wrote: 'I am appalled by your suggestion that I should invent some spurious reason for the resignation you seek so soon after we all signed up to open and transparent government in Alderney.'
