AURIGNY could invest tens of millions of pounds in jet aircraft to make up the 6,000 seats Flybe provides to Gatwick each week.
Treasury and Resources said yesterday the States-owned airline was considering the option of jet aircraft after Flybe announced it will stop its service from the end of March.
But it was unlikely that States funding would be used if the airline did decide to go for the larger-capacity jet option.
Industry experts and local business figures welcomed news that Aurigny was considering introducing jet aircraft.
Among them was aviation expert and writer Geoff Jones, who moved away from Guernsey recently.
But he warned that a rise in ticket prices was inevitable if Aurigny held a monopoly on the Gatwick service.
