A DAMAGED angling boat was winched out of the water in Alderney yesterday after it hit rocks on its way back from a trip.

The 11-metre charter boat, called Lone Shark III, was carrying 12 people on board when it hit a rock 1.5 miles south-east of the island late on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesman at Alderney Harbourmaster's Office said the vessel sustained damage and was beginning to 'list severely' after the collision.

'The weather conditions were spot on – very calm,' he said.

'It can only be put down to a navigational error.'
