A NEW governing body will control the College of Further Education's budget from 2015, the Education Department has announced.

However, despite devolving decision-making to a group of volunteers, the department has given an assurance that it will maintain an appropriate level of oversight, as the body will have to work within a mandate set by its political board.

Education has invited applications for a chair of the new board of governors, which will take over from the College Development Committee, to start in September.

Education member Deputy Peter Sherbourne, pictured, said the new system would be a Guernsey form of local management of schools.
