PEDESTRIANS were put in danger after a drain cover and a fire hydrant cover were stolen twice in one week, Guernsey Police have said.

The incidents happened on the pavement next to Le Neuf Chemin in St Saviour's, close to the reservoir.

Public Services manages the covers. A spokesman said the theft of the covers was reported to them last Monday, after the organisers of the Guernsey Kart and Motor Club spotted the gaps.

'We put down some temporary ones, so that we did not leave holes in the pavement, while we obtained fit-for-purpose ones,' the spokesman said.

'They were put in by Monday afternoon.'

But on Wednesday the covers had again gone.
