Grammar head has concerns over England's exam plans

GUERNSEY has a duty to its young people to make sure that it makes the right decisions when considering changes to the curriculum, qualifications and assessments, the head teacher of the Grammar School said yesterday.

Tina Watson, pictured, was one of the island's education professionals attending a special Crown Dependencies conference yesterday.

She said it was important to meet colleagues from the island, Jersey and the Isle of Man following England's announcement of plans to change GCSEs and A-levels as part of wider curriculum reforms.

There were concerns, she added, about England's plans.

'What is being proposed is big changes with the assessment structure in England for A-levels and GCSEs,' she said. 'The time is right for us to ask questions about the curriculum and link that to the educational vision.'
