The woman who was trapped under a taxi in Mill Street yesterday has been named as 63-year-old Patricia Smith.

Mrs Smith is currently in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit at the PEH, but Guernsey Police say that it is expected that she will be transferred to a UK hospital in the next day or so.

Mrs Smith is employed as a senior library assistant in the schools department at the Guille-Alles Libary.

She was walking in Mill Street at about 5.30pm yesterday when the incident happened. It led to her receiving spinal injuries and fractures to her legs and pelvic area.

Police say the incident occurred when the unaccompanied taxi rolled down the hill, the driver having got out of the vehicle further up the street.

Investigations are continuing and will include a detailed mechanical examination of the taxi.

No arrests have been made and police say that a decision on whether or not to bring charges is not likely until after the vehicle has been examined.
