RENAMING Aurigny 'Guernsey Air' would put right a missed opportunity and make the most of a States-owned asset, a deputy campaigning for the change has said.

Former advertising agency director Darren Duquemin, pictured, has written to Treasury and Resources and the airline urging the switch.

It comes as Treasury announced Aurigny is finalising plans to buy new aircraft to cover Flybe's withdrawal of its Gatwick service.

Deputy Duquemin said it was an opportunity for the States to do what it should have done when it bought the airline in 2003.

He has already secured domain names for 'Guernsey Air' and 'Air Guernsey'.

'If someone searched Guernsey, Guernsey Air could easily be the number two link below Visit Guernsey,' he said.
