A father and his friend's young son remain seriously hurt in separate hospitals in the UK today after being slammed into railings by a car while they were walking at the Albert Pier.

The man, aged 30, suffered severe leg injuries and was initially in a stable condition at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital while the two-year-old boy was flown to the UK for further emergency treatment.

The injured man has been named today as Mark Campbell.

He was due to be transferrred to Salisbury Hospital for treatment yesterday, but this was delayed and he remains at the PEH where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

The two-year-old boy is Aiden Mroch. He is currently being treated in Southampton Hospital and is also reported to be in a stable condition.

A silver Audi appeared to have driven between two large planters on the pier facing The Quay and crashed into the railing, striking Mr Campbell and the youngster and bending the stainless steel barrier over the water.

  • Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Guernsey Police on 725111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
