EIGHT fields went under the hammer at a public auction last night.

Almost 100 people attended the sale in a sweltering Martel Maides auction room for the chance to bid on the pieces of land.

Twelve had been planned to be auctioned, but four were withdrawn because they were sold earlier in the day.

Auctioneer and Martel Maides director Nick Renny told the crowd before bidding began that all fields were subject to reserve prices, below which they would not be sold.

Most went within the expected guide price, though several fell short of the maximum. Three went for significantly more than had been expected.
