Carnival performers are a boost for retailers

TOWN Carnival performers help lift the atmosphere in Town, shoppers and retailers have said.

The annual event, which sees a variety of acts taking place in Town throughout the week, kicked off on Saturday with the parade.

Sails sales assistant Chrystal Topley said the event was a boost for businesses.

'Normally after the parade goes past we get more people coming into the shop as they're dragged along by the crowd,' she said. 'The shop is always busier whenever the event is on.'

Mick Le Vasseur, 70, enjoyed watching the parade go by. 'It really does well for the Town, I look forward to the carnival every year,' he said. 'With all the different things going on it can only be a good thing for the visitors.'
