A PETITION to keep the Hautes Capelles School pool open all year round is being handed over today.

Swimcraft owner Margaret Honey and parents of swim school pupils have collected hundreds of signatures since the Education Department's announcement last month that school pool opening hours would be cut in a bid to save £100,000 a year.

Under the plans, the Hautes Capelles pool would be kept open for just six months of the year, but Ms Honey believes the facility is currently almost breaking even and it would not take much for it to turn a profit.

Time will tell if the petition is a success.

The second phase of the Environment Department's public consultation into the new Island Development Plan also starts today.

It has published a booklet on the key messages, issues and options that have emerged so far. We will be examining that and getting reactions from islanders.

If you have something to say on the issue, let us know.

Also in tomorrow's paper, the Health and Social Services Department responds to today's lead story about the neglect of the elderly at the PEH.

And in tomorrow's Sport pages, we reveal the Fantasy F1 standings after the Hungarian Grand Prix and track the progress of Everest conqueror Andy May in the All Terrain Challenge running series.
