ISLE of Sark Shipping did not break any of its licence conditions when it operated a service in rough weather, its directors have said.

Colin Smith and Julie Mann hit back at claims that it should not have operated the Sark Belle during the weekend of the sheep racing.

The Sark Newsletter has called on Lt-Governor Air Marshal Peter Walker to hold an inquiry into the ferry trip, claiming that passengers were visibly shaken, with many of them sick.

A passenger on the sailing, who asked not to be named, confirmed people were screaming due to the rough conditions. 'It was shocking, really really rough,' he said.

In a joint statement, Mr Smith and Mrs Mann both denied breaking any conditions of their licence during the 20 July sailing.

Harbour master Captain Peter Gill was also unaware of any breaches and had not received any complaints against the company.
