No survivors from Jersey plane crash

JERSEY Police has announced there were no survivors from the plane crash this morning.

The force confirmed the news on its Facebook page.

A major emergency was declared in Jersey this morning after a light aircraft crashed off St Ouen's Bay - it is understood two people were on board.

The Cessna Crusader, which is believed to have at least two people on board, is understood to have crashed four miles out to sea in thick fog while on approach to the airport.

There were unconfirmed reports that air traffic control lost contact with the plane about 20 minutes before it was due to land.

The Marin Marie passenger ferry, which was sailing from Jersey to Sark at the time, was diverted to the scene by Jersey Coastguard.

The Channel Islands Air Search aircraft took off from its base in Guernsey at 10.45 am to search the area and a French military helicopter was also involved in the operation.
