COME DINE WITH ME contestant Ben Inder has been hit by a barrage of hate mail since the popular reality television show aired.

The 21-year-old, who placed second on the Channel 4 programme, revealed that his mother had even been scared to leave her home after Tuesday's episode sparked a wave of online abuse. Mr Inder said yesterday that he had expected a certain level of criticism after his performance, but insisted audiences saw an 'exaggerated' version of him.

Abuse received has included Facebook messages from complete strangers, emails to work and insults in the street, said to be unrepeatable in a family newspaper.

'I did go into work today, but I turned on my computer and saw a screen full of hate mail, so decided to leave,' he said.

Despite the abuse, Mr Inder said he had no regrets over his appearance on the show, apart from when he labelled the people of Guernsey 'backwards'.
